What Not to Pack: Our Non-Transportable and Prohibited Items Policy

At Midwest Movers, safety and responsibility guide every move we complete. To protect your belongings, our movers, and your property, certain items cannot be transported in our moving vehicles. Understanding this policy in advance helps prevent delays, damages, or legal complications on moving day.

What Not to Pack: Our Non-Transportable and Prohibited Items Policy

Why Some Items Cannot Be Moved

Some things are restricted by law, while others present safety risks during loading, transit, or storage. These restrictions are designed to keep everyone safe—our crew, your possessions, and the environment. Knowing what is considered non-transportable lets you make alternative arrangements ahead of time.

Hazardous or Flammable Materials

Movers are not allowed to carry dangerous items that could leak, ignite, or explode under pressure or heat. Please do not include in your boxes:

  • Gasoline, lighter fluid, or propane tanks

  • Paints, varnishes, and paint thinners

  • Ammunition, explosives, or firearms

  • Pesticides or other toxic chemicals

  • Fireworks or aerosol cans

Dispose of such items properly or contact local recycling facilities to handle them safely.

Perishable and Living Items

To ensure hygiene and prevent spoilage, our moving trucks cannot carry perishable or living items, including:

  • Fresh food, frozen goods, or open containers

  • Live plants, flowers, or animals

  • Perishable goods requiring climate control

These can be damaged or cause unpleasant odors during transport. It’s best to move them personally or make separate shipping arrangements.

Valuable and Personal Documents

While not illegal, we recommend keeping the following with you rather than packing them into moving boxes:

  • Passports, IDs, and financial documents

  • Jewelry, cash, and small electronics

  • Family heirlooms or items of sentimental value

Having these essentials with you ensures peace of mind and quick access when needed.

Safe Moving, Start to Finish

If you’re unsure about an item, reach out to our customer support team before your move. We can help identify safe alternatives, guide you through proper packing methods, or suggest secure shipping solutions for restricted items.

At Midwest Movers, our goal is to make your move as secure, organized, and stress-free as possible. Following the Non-Transportable and Prohibited Items Policy ensures that everything—and everyone—arrives safely at your new destination.
